After first becoming involved in Minneapolis worker cooperatives in 2000, Tom served as an organizer for founding the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives in 2004. In 2006 he received the William Hlushko Award for Young Cooperative Educators for his efforts developing worker cooperative educational programs. From 2007-11 Tom served as Executive Director of North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO), a federation of cooperatives located across the US and Canada. Tom currently serves on the boards of the Democracy at Work Institute, Northcountry Cooperative Development Fund (NCDF), and Northcountry Cooperative Federal Credit Union. He provides freelance assistance to cooperatives and advises groups across the country on a pro bono basis. In his free time, Tom enjoys cooking, reading non-fiction, and supporting the arts.
